The Izzy Wellington Doll

Izzy and her friend Old Bear love going on adventures together!

Izzy Wellington is an 18-inch doll, knitted in the round, then felted in your washing machine. Her dress and dancing slippers are separate pieces. The 8-page pattern includes directions for knitting, felting, assembling all her pieces (dress and shoes, too!) and for making her hair on a circle knitting loom. $2.50

Maile the Mermaid and Friends

Maile the Mermaid is shown here with her friends Leilani the Mermaid and Sugar the Seahorse. Both the mermaid and the seahorse are knit completely in the round and then felted in your washing machine. Simply change the fin, skin and hair colors and make each mermaid uniquely yours! The mermaids require US size 10 1/2 double-pointed needles. One skein of 219 yards of 100% wool yarn (Ella Rae Classic is what I recommend) with two strands held together throughout for the fin, along with one strand of novelty yarn, such as shown here in Crystal Palace Little Flowers. The body and arms are knit with 2 strands of wool yarn, such as Ella Rae Classic, in any skin-tone color you choose. The arms are string jointed. The hair is made with yarn knots. The face is embroidered, as is the star-shaped, shell bra.

Sugar the Seahorse requires one skein of 100% wool yarn (such as Ella Rae Classic) and one ball of novelty yarn. One strand of each is used throughout on US size 8 double-pointed needles. I highly recommend the use of Ella Rae Classic wool because it felts so beautifully, but as  you need less than a skein of yarn to complete the seahorse, you may find something in your stash that would be suitable. For instance, I knit Sugar, as photographed above, with Cascade 220 in a light purple solid, such as 9541, which I had on hand. I held a strand of Crystal Palace Little Flowers in Blueberry Grape with it. Although a fair amount of stitch definition remains, he is still quite cute! I would also recommend Paton's Classic Merino, which is quite easy to find at most local craft and hobby stores.

Remember: These will be your mermaids and seahorses. You can use any color combinations that you like!  Maile was knit with Ella Rae Classic number 25 (aquamarine), but there are plenty of other greens that would also be beautiful. I used Crystal Palace Little Flowers in Seafoam. Maile's Caucasian skin-tone is Ella Rae Classic 54.

Leilani was knit with Ella Rae Classic number 43, Magenta. I used Crystal Palace Little Flowers Strawberries and Limes. Leilani's Island skin-tone is Ella Rae Classic number 11, Rose.

Directions for both the Mermaid and the Seahorse are given in the 8-page pattern, along with instructions for making and attaching the hair, embroidering the faces and the bra. $5

Simple Dolls

Remember the thrill of a new box of crayons? All those colors inside! These Simple Dolls are just as colorful and just as fun for imaginative play. You can stuff them for little dolls or leave them without stuffing for finger puppets!

Knitted in the round on size US 8 needles, these dolls are then felted in your washing machine. They are sturdy! Choose your skin-tone color and outfit color. Each doll can be made with yarn or embroidered hair or no hair at all. You choose! The pattern instructions include tips for embroidering faces and suggestions for attaching hair.  I recommend Ella Rae Classic wool yarn for the heads because the skin-tone colors are perfect, but other wool yarns work well, too, like Knit Picks Wool of the Andes, Paton's Classic Merino and Berroccco Peruvia.

The 7-page pattern includes all three doll sizes,  the dog,  the cat and hats (cowboy hat, baseball cap,  and policeman's cap), too!  Purchase the pdf download here for only $2.50
